Being Merry In Spite Of It All is a story by Renae. Part A was released on 2006-06-07, Part B on 2006-10-03, Part C on 2007-08-05. It runs from 2006-11-05 to 2006-11-18. It is the sixth story about Merry.
Part A[]
In the first part, Sara brings Fey to visit Merry. Aunghadhail finds a second pump in Merry that has Mythos elements, and removes it. They promise to get her out, before leaving. Merry diverts Dr. Otto’s questions about Fey’s visit with information about Dr. Palm. Her health improves a lot. When Sara comes back, she takes Merry to meet Gothmog. Dr. Otto calls in Aladdin to give Merry tools to practice shielding. Arturo arrives to see Merry.
Part B[]
In the second part, a young boy named Larry starts mutating, and is taken to ARC. He produces a strong enough electrical storm to knock out everyone around him, and Merry is asked to go in and help him. She does, and gets him into her shielded room. He has been badly burned, so she uses the power to heal him that she gets from being a Knight. Unfortunately, the price of the healing is to spend time in Hell, and while she is there, Satan decides she is a perfect messenger girl, which involves vomiting out a live snake when she gets back. It is then discovered that Larry has changed into a girl, which freaks out both her and her parents.
Part C[]
In the third part, Larry’s mother tries to blame Merry for Larry’s gender bender, and Merry has to shock her out of it. NEXT’s CEO, Willard, and Father Pete make arrangements to move both Merry and her sister Joni to Whateley. Merry, Kam, and Larry do some powers testing, until Merry is reminded of John’s death and hides in the internet. She gets out far enough to find Clu. Dr. Tanaka finds out that Dr. Otto has been ensorcelled to hurt Merry, as part of the sabotage that Dr. Lenston left behind. They check for more sabotage, but don’t catch it all. Dr. Otto arranges for a group of Whateley TG students to come meet Larry and help her adjust. Merry helps Larry pick her new name, Karen. Sara asks Gypsy for a prediction of when Merry can escape from ARC, and she, Fey, and Chou agree to try it.
