"Bert" is a battered, 24 year old fire fighting robot, originally a Hughes Industries Fire Fighter Mk 1 manufactured in 1983. It was involved in a serious apartment building fire where it saved an infant and a Cocker Spaniel while sustaining heavy damage itself. It was retired in part of a technology exchange program for local schools to have access to high technology and ended up at Whateley.
- The vaguely human-shaped little robot unfolded from its cradle, revealing itself to be about three feet tall with a head dominated by a single camera with a huge red lens in the center of what would be its forehead if it were human.[1]
Bert's home is the Whateley Academy Radio Station's broadcasting room, where he manages various of the tasks involved in producing their broadcasts.
