The Destroyer (The Grove calls it the Star Stalker) may have been an ancient war machine called The Scourge created by the Isokist in their fight with the Great Old Ones .
Whatever it is and whoever created it, it has been used enough down the eons for it to become part of the psychic background of sentient races. It's possible that this psychic background inspired the creation of the anime character of Ryoko. Finally, it became bound to the person of Tennyo.

From one viewpoint, Tennyo is The Scourge, so the Destroyer walks among us daily. From another, she's simply one minor part of something that's older, vaster and essentially incomprehensible to the normal human mind. This part of the article only looks at memories of The Scourge's missions.
