Phelps Carruthers, sometimes spelt "Caruthers", was a member of the Boston Carruthers, of Carruthers Industries fame. He was one of Miss Abby Carfax' gentleman callers, and liked her well enough that he rewrote his will in her favor. The Necromancer had him killed, and his death blamed on Vamp, as a means of forcing Vamp to join the Children of the Night.[1] Miss Carfax has expressed sadness at his passing, and is in the process of enforcing his will, and expects opposition from his family.[2]
